Musi River is a tributary of the river Krishna in the Deccan plateau region of Telangana state in India. It flows through a major portion of the city Hyderabad, connecting to the reservoirs Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar. These serve as an essential source of water supply to Hyderabad and other cities around the lakes.
The government of Telangana has sought to beautify/restore the existing bridges and also to build a few new bridges. HRDCL a Government of Telangana corporation had called for an architectural design competition for developing preliminary design concepts. We have also participated in the competition and have submitted our design entry. We have been influenced by the design elements and design language of Hyderabad city. The system can be described as suspended bridges in a portal based pointed arch system. We have introduced lanes for cycle track & pedestrian access. Over and above there are green spaces along the length of the bridge. The cars can be parked along the length of the road to access the green spaces.
The bridge proposed is for a typical length of 200 meters. And the bridges are designed to divide the length into 3 equal parts. In the plan, the bridge frame appears like a rhombus. And portal proposed is in concrete. The green spaces offer sitting and outdoor furniture areas for the comfortable pedestrian access & crossing of the bridge. It is suggested the bridge shall also serve as a place for public activities or as a green plaza to help the city in the face of dense developments and concrete densification.
